What can I do to improve my mental wellness?
It is sometimes easy to forget mental wellness when we consider mental health, where mental illness might draw the focus.
We also might often forget that if we’re feeling generally well, we should still consider how we can support our holistic wellbeing, and look after ourselves more now, so we can better weather any storms that lie ahead.
Consultant psychiatrist Dr Robert Harland talks us through the Five Steps to Wellness approach (https://www.nhs.uk/mental-health/self-help/guides-tools-and-activities/five-steps-to-mental-wellbeing/ ) that everyone, regardless of their situation, can employ to enhance mental wellbeing.
Clinical psychologists Ms Ilse du Preez and Dr Veronica Ranieri also talk on the bread and butter of integrated physical and mental health - from being in nature, to making sure you’re getting enough sleep, and developing our own mental health thermostat.
Consultant psychiatrist Dr Chun Chian Sin Fai Lam finishes by reminding us that the medical model isn’t the only one out there, and there are networks and frameworks outside of the formal mental health system that could also bring you great comfort.
