I’ve tried to stop taking my antidepressants before but haven’t been able to. Will I have to stay on them forever?

Conversations about anti-depressants are a very large part of the day to day work of the Sloane Court Clinic. Whether they should be started, what side effects there might be, whether they’ll work or not and, understandably, concerns about whether people will have to be on them forever.

There have also been recent news articles covering global patient stories - cases of severe withdrawal effects from stopping anti-depressants, and the debilitating impact this has had on their lives.

Dr Siobhan Gee, Consultant Pharmacist, addresses the issue head on here, and discusses how both new research and new methods of tapering down and ultimately stopping anti-depressants means that stopping without uncomfortable withdrawal effects is entirely possible, even for those who have struggled before.
