Common Presenting Situations for Consultant Pharmacist Guidance Services

Consultant Pharmacists are able to provide guidance on a wide range of medication-based queries, including – but not limited to – queries around side-effects, interaction effects with other psychiatric and non-psychiatric (physical) medications, interaction effects with over-the-counter medications and health supplements and vitamins, and interaction effects with other non-medication substances, such as alcohol, nicotine, caffeine and illicit substances.

They are also able to provide advice and guidance on medication usage, and the impact thereof, during particular life stages, most commonly around conception, pregnancy, breast-feeding, and menopause.

Consultant Pharmacists can also provide second opinion services for patients on a current medication regime who are concerned about medication side-effects or impacts to cognitive performance, mood, arousal abilities or motor function, and who may be considering cessation or changing said regime.
