BSc (Hons), MSc, DClinPsy
Dr William Barber (DClinPsy) is a Clinical Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). William completed his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience at King’s College London. He currently works in a community addictions service, supporting individuals affected by drug and alcohol use. Alongside his clinical work, William is affiliated with the Addictions Department at King’s College London and is actively involved in research exploring cravings, mental imagery, and addiction in minoritised communities, for example, chemsex.
William works with adults and couples experiencing a wide range of challenges, including addiction, depression, trauma, PTSD, anxiety (generalised, health, panic, and death), low self-esteem, neurodiversity, stress, grief and loss, perfectionism, eating disorders, and body image concerns. He is also passionate about supporting the wellbeing of staff working in high-pressure health and care environments.
Drawing on an integrative and evidence-based therapeutic approach, William primarily uses Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and incorporates interventions from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT)-informed approaches. He also integrates mindfulness-based strategies to support clients in building emotional awareness, reducing distress, and developing lasting coping skills.
William’s therapeutic style is non-judgmental, collaborative, and trauma-informed. He works with clients to set meaningful goals and believes that therapy should focus not just on coping but on flourishing - helping people live rich and meaningful lives beyond the absence of distress. He aims to create a safe and supportive space where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to make changes.
