Dr Marcella Fok is a consultant psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience working in the NHS, including 10 years as a consultant, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She has worked in private practice since 2017 and is experienced in assessing and treating a wide range of mental health conditions across the lifespan.

With extensive experience working with clinical populations at risk of mis- or over-prescribing, Dr Fok has developed particular expertise in medication rationalisation. She works closely with patients to review and optimise their treatment, supporting safe reduction of medications where clinically appropriate. De-prescribing is a key focus of her specialist practice.

Dr Fok has special expertise as a medical psychotherapist, meaning that she is highly skilled in applying psychotherapeutic understanding to all aspects of psychiatric care. In addition to the judicious use of medication, she offers brief or long-term psychotherapy according to individual needs. She is an accredited Mentalization-Based Treatment Supervisor with the Anna Freud Centre and a Psychoanalyst registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council. Dr Fok provides consultations in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.

Dr Fok studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh before completing her training in psychiatry and psychotherapy in London, at the Maudsley Hospital, the Tavistock Clinic, and St Ann’s Hospital. She obtained a Doctorate in Research at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King’s College London, focusing on the health outcomes of individuals with personality disorder. She served as Research Co-Lead for the Faculty of Medical Psychotherapy (2018–2022, RCPsych) and continues to use research to inform her clinical work.

She has been a consultant trainer for core and higher psychiatry trainees for over a decade and has taught and supervised clinicians both in the UK and internationally.

Dr Fok is passionate about promoting inclusion and reducing stigma in mental health. Her work in community service design has been recognised nationally — a service she developed for people with complex emotional needs was Highly Commended at the 2021 UK National Mental Health Awards.
