Dr Louisa Beckford

Dr Louisa Beckford is a consultant psychiatrist. She has worked as a consultant psychiatrist in the NHS and private sector and now works exclusively in private practice. Louisa has worked at consultant level for 7 and a half years.

Louisa specialises in eating disorder psychiatry. She has extensive experience in working in eating disorder services including inpatient, outpatient and intensive day treatment settings. She is skilled in the management of all eating disorder presentations including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, avoidant restrictive food intake disorder and atypical eating disorder presentations that do not fit neatly into these categories. Louisa is also experienced in managing eating disorders presenting in pregnancy and managing eating disorders associated with physical conditions including diabetes, POTS and hypermobility disorders. Louisa is trained in general adult psychiatry and is experienced in managing mood disorders including bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, OCD, and trauma. Louisa is experienced in managing clients with eating disorders and co-morbid neurodiversity including autistic spectrum disorder and ADHD.

Louisa trained in general adult psychiatry and old age psychiatry at the Maudsley and Bethlem Hospitals and in the West Midlands region and holds a dual certificate of completed training in general adult and old age psychiatry.

Louisa is regularly involved in delivering teaching on eating disorders and has appeared in podcasts and webinars and has written articles in professional newsletters and in the national press.

Louisa’s interests lie in helping clients achieve better progress towards recovery through careful, compassionate and thorough assessment, prompt management of co-morbid conditions and assessment of physical factors that can affect progress in treatment. Louisa is skilled in using medication as part of the treatment of psychiatric conditions but adopts a cautious approach to prescribing.
