Dr Bhathika Perera
FRCPsych, PhD, MBBS, MSt, MMedSci

Dr. Bhathika Perera is a honorary consultant psychiatrist working in North East London NHS foundation trust, and an Associate Professor at Division of Psychiatry in University College London. He has worked within the NHS for over 20 years.

He has specific clinical and research interests in mental health problems in adults with intellectual disability and neurodevelopmental disorders, mainly ADHD and Autism in adults. He has extensive experience in the assessment, management and treatment of common mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and adjustment disorder. He also has special clinical and research interest in mental health problems among doctors and other health professionals. He is currently the research lead of NHS Practitioner Health which is an organisation that provides mental health care for doctors and other health professionals.

Dr Perera completed his specialist psychiatry training in Nottingham, UK. He has studied in University of Colombo, University of Leeds, University of Nottingham, University of Cambridge and University of Maastricht. After obtaining the specialisation in intellectual disability psychiatry in 2012, Dr Perera has worked within different NHS services.

In addition to his clinical and research roles, he is actively involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students.
