Ms Ilse du Preez is a clinical psychologist with approximately 20 years’ experience, approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). She is an accredited Schema therapist and has worked with both young and old, including families.

Ms du Preez completed her undergraduate and postgraduate training in South Africa. She has worked in both inpatient and outpatient settings, private and public health sectors in South Africa and in the UK.

Ms du Preez deeply values connection with others and feels privileged to be a part of people’s journey to find healthy ways through the complex and sometimes overwhelming challenges of life.

Many people who seek therapy have experienced challenges and tried to overcome these on their own – Ms Du Preez offers an approach in which she works together with patients to identify and achieve meaningful change. During the initial sessions I try to understand what is driving someone’s behaviour, what their needs are and how these can be met.

Her therapeutic approach is influenced by a wide range of psychological understanding of human nature which include; psychodynamic, systemic, attachment, internal family therapy and polyvagal theory. The therapy she offers is mainly Schema Therapy which focuses on treating the underlying factors that drive someone’s difficulties. This approach uncovers and meets early needs, aiming to develop adapted coping mechanisms. She uses experiential techniques to allow for a real experience of change and growth.
