Impact of Menopause

Menopause is a biological process that occurs at the end of a woman’s fertile years. While most of the changes impact the reproductive system, menopause can also have a significant impact on mental health. This can be due to the hormonal changes taking place in the body, or a knock on effect of the symptoms (e.g. difficulty sleeping leading to feeling easily irritated).

Menopausal symptoms can include:

  • Feeling angry or easily irritated
  • Anxiety
  • Forgetfulness, lack of concentration or ‘brain fog’
  • Loss of confidence or self-esteem
  • Low mood
  • Difficulty sleeping

While these symptoms are all normal, you don’t have to suffer without help. If you feel that you - or someone you love - are struggling with the mental health symptoms that accompany the menopause, we have an expert team of Consultant Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists and Psychotherapists who are available to provide help and support.
