Dr Maria Jalmbrant

Dr Maria Jaimbrant

Dr. Maria Jalmbrant is a clinical psychologist with several years’ post-qualification experience in the assessment and treatment of psychological difficulties and in conducting research.

Dr. Jalmbrant currently runs the Lewisham Adult Autism and ADHD Service at the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. She has previously worked at the National Adult Autism and ADHD Service at the Maudsley Hospital and the Bethlem Royal Hospital, and the Adult Psychology Service at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, and she has experience of working for the military.

She specialises in providing psychological therapy for a range of difficulties, including anxiety, social anxiety, depression, low self esteem, eating disorders, developmental disorders (e.g. autism, ADHD/ADD), procrastination, time management and organizational difficulties, perfectionism, obsessive compulsive disorders (OCD), relationship difficulties, personality disorders, self-harm, body-dysmorphic disorder and body image problems, Tourette’s Syndrome, bi-polar affective disorders, PTSD, women’s health and early pregnancy complications, adjustment difficulties, veterans, combat stress, addiction, anger and aggression.

Her main therapeutic approaches are cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), schema-focused therapy, cognitive analytic therapy, brief solution-focused therapy, compassionate CBT. She can also provide specialist diagnostic assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorders for men and women, neuropsychological assessments of specific and general learning difficulties and to clarify the clinical presentation of cognitive difficulties where indicated. 

Dr Jalmbrant is also actively involved in research and training and her research interests focus on the psychological impact of early pregnancy complications, the emotional impact of doctors going through the complaints process, measuring outcomes in clinical practice, the diagnostic process of Autism spectrum disorders in adults. She is a medical advisor for the Ectopic Pregnancy Trust and contributes to the education and training of obstetricians, gynecologists and midwives around the psychological impact of early pregnancy loss. She is also actively involved in the training of new clinical psychologists and has previously worked part time as a clinical tutor at the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London.
