Mr Janis Briedis

Mr Janis Briedis is a Counselling Psychologist chartered by the British Psychological Society (BPS), approved by the Health Professions Council (HPC) and a psychotherapist accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

Mr Briedis has worked both in the National Health Service and in the private sector since qualifying in 2005, and has gained extensive experience of working with a wide spectrum of clients within primary and secondary care settings. He sees patients on a short to long term basis presenting with a highly diverse range of difficulties from mild depression and anxiety to trauma and PTSD, panic disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, issues with bereavement and loss, self-harm, difficulties managing emotions, difficulties managing anger, relationship problems, low self-esteem and many other difficulties.

Mr Briedis has also been involved in providing consultation, training and supervision to other health professionals including running student placements, and currently works at a community mental health team with individuals presenting with multiple and complex difficulties including personality disorders and psychoses.
A particular clinical interest is in working in-depth with complex presentations involving both intra-psychic as well as inter-personal difficulties.

Mr Briedis has experience of applying a variety of theoretical perspectives in his clinical work including cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), schema-focused therapy (SFT), compasion-focussed therapy (CFT) and solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), and draws extensively on psychodynamic, existential-phenomenological and mindfulness-based approaches in his work.

Mr Briedis is able to undertake clinical treatment in English, Latvian or Russian.
